Meet Our Partners

Vine & Branch

Our partnered organizations and individuals represent critical areas of interest for Veterans and their Families. Their representatives are leaders within business, health care, volunteer service, real estate, education, and the Church (all denominations).

These partners have agreed to assist the V&B Family in our efforts to connect Veterans and their Families with local communities and employment all over the United States. The V&B Family could not accomplish its mission without dedicated partnership support.

Lastly, our partners see how they can both learn from and impart knowledge to the Veteran and Family community.

Below is our new and growing list of Partners and Best Practice Groups organized by State.

Board Title: Founder and Executive Director

About Me: I’m Chris Allen, and I want to thank you for visiting our web page . I am the father of 3 beautiful girls and husband to Jennifer, an amazing military wife. I have a Masters in Counseling from Covenant Theological. Most importantly, I am a Christian who is blessed with the mission of starting Vine and Branch Family.

John Chapter 15 in the Bible underpins the Vine and Branch Family approach to both work and culture. I make no apologies for our approach, while at the same time desire to help Veterans, their Families , and Americans of all faiths and career fields. Note: I always capitalize “Family.”

My time as an Army Officer, numerous deployments while serving on both Active and Reserve Duty, led me to recognize first hand that Veteran and Family concerns move beyond PTSD, injury, homelessness, and the ever present need for meaningful employment. Those are all very real and important issues. The hidden yet larger issue compounding the problems I just mentioned is cultural. Simply put, there is a disconnect between military and civilian cultures.

There is no “magic bullet” solution or program that will “fix” all Veteran and Family issues. What we can do is harness existing institutions that traditionally benefit both Military and Civilian Cultures. We will work through a network of Churches, employers, volunteer service organizations, Counselors, health care professionals, Real Estate Agents, and other Veterans to strengthen military and civilian cultural connections. Vine and Branch Career Solutions (LLC) and Vine and Branch Ranch (NFP) will help bring military and civilian cultures together.

About Me: Hi, I'm Lyz Pickette. I'm the proud spouse of a retired Air Force veteran and mother of two energetic boys, ages four and seven. I'm a home school mom to my oldest son, a volunteer, sports-mobile chauffeur, and self-employed entrepreneur in the skincare industry.

In 1996, I earned my undergraduate degree in Studio Art from Florida Southern College with minors in Spanish and Secondary Education. After teaching ESL for a summer in Central America, I discovered I had a deeper passion for linguistics and decided to pursue the subject area further. In 2008, I completed my MA from Western Governors University in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).

Somewhere in the middle of all that, I was swept off of my feet by a handsome man in uniform who promised me the world. And boy, did he deliver! Before we retired from the military and settled here in the Tampa Bay Area, my husband's military career took us to many spectacular places all over the world.

While our active duty military life was exciting, adventurous, and full of endless surprises, it was difficult for me to hold down a career in my field. I soon left my own career as a professional development trainer for the school district where we were stationed to become a stay at home mom. My story mirrors that of thousands of spouses who spend years supporting their partner's military careers. Frequent moves make it difficult to obtain work licenses, leaving trailing spouses without work, underemployed, and often losing valuable job skills. This is why I support the mission of Vine and Branch Ranch. Active duty members moving from duty station to duty station, their families and those retiring need services such as those offered by V&B to assist them in obtaining and maintaining work. We thank YOU for supporting our mission.
